New-Jersey, and was born the ICth of 12th month, 1742.
Her Grandfather, Samuel Dennis, removed to America, from
Stanstead-Mount-Fitchet, in Essex, and arrived at New-York,
the 27th of 8th month, 1675. He was a Bricklayer by trade. —
Memoirs, Essays, and Epistolary Correspondence of INCREASE
WOODWARD. In Comly's Miscellany, Vol. 12, page 1.
12mo. Philadelphia, 1839.
She died the 1st of the 6th month, 1822, aged about 80 years.
I have never seen this reference to the origins of Samuel Dennis, or his trade before. Very interesting. I will have to see if I can locate the source mentioned; Comly's Miscellany; to see if there is anything further.

Hello, I just found your journal entry mentioned above when I did a Google search for John Dennis in Monmouth, NJ. I, too, am researching the Dennis family from Monmouth who moved to Beekman, Dutchess County, New York. It's been a brick wall for me. My fourth great-grandfather is Jonathan Dennis, born in 1743, son of John Dennis. My research leads me to believe that John Dennis was born in Cape May in 1710. I cannot get back farther than that, but I believe that the above-mentioned John Dennis had a brother named Samuel. I'm wondering if it's the same Samuel you mentioned.
Is it possible we're researching the same family? As I mentioned above, this branch of the family moved to New York, but I would dearly love to find their origins. I don't know how this whole "journal" thing works, but I hope you will see this response to your message posted over a year ago, and that you will respond to me via regular e-mail at connieradde@gmail.com.
Thanks.
